The upper is a fine suede with a close, even nap that takes a crease and settles rather than buckling at the flex point. Elastic panels run down each side, so the boot pulls on cleanly and then grips the instep instead of gaping. A slim almond toe keeps the line under a trouser hem, and the low shaft sits just above the ankle bone. Sizes run 7 to 12; if you are between sizes, take the larger with a thicker sock.

Elastic Gores That Hold the Foot Steady The side panels stretch to let the foot through, then draw back so the collar stays flush at the heel. No laces to adjust means the boot is on and set before you reach the door.

A Low Shaft That Works With Tailoring and Denim The shaft stops clear of the calf, so a trouser breaks over it neatly rather than bunching. Rolled jeans sit on it just as well.

Suede and Stitched Construction That Keeps Its Shape The suede is supple with a dry, matte hand and almost no stretch beyond the gores, so the vamp holds its form through a long day. The upper is stitched down to a hardwearing sole with a modest heel, and a pull tab at the back takes the strain off the collar seam.

Wear with dark tapered denim and a crew knit, or with flannel trousers and an overcoat for colder weeks.
